Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, who plays an ex-criminal named Scott Lang, who is convinced into breaking into a home even after his efforts to stay on the straight and arrow after being released from prison. After finding a suit in the vault of the home, Lang is taken in by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and convinced to become a hero that can save the world.
Much Like other “origin” stories, Ant-Man takes awhile to really get into the meat and potatoes of the film. There is hardly any action until the last hour of the movie. So if you have a problem with films taking too long, or just don’t like films that are slow, then you might have a problem with Ant-Man. What I did, and didn’t like at times, was the comedy throughout the film. What this film has that other superhero films don’t have, was the constant comedic performances throughout. Rudd does a terrific job playing Ant-Man with the fierce persona of a superhero, but also not taking himself too seriously. Although this film does wander into the realm of comedy on a consistent basis, at times it seemed rather forced.
With the contribution of other characters such as, Hope Pym (Evangeline Lilly) and Luis (Michael Peña), Ant-Man shows off the skills of rivaling that of other famous Marvel superhero franchises. Here’s hoping that Ant-Man can really make a dent in the Marvel universe come the sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is to be released July of 2018.
