In honor of Mother’s Day, I decided to honor them in the best way possible. Today I present the list of the 5 WORST Mothers in film. Let’s be thankful that we don’t have these mothers!
5. The 400 Blows-Gilberte Doinel
Antoine’s mother, Gilberte, doesn’t seem to care for him. When the father asks if she bought Antoine a new bed, it seems as though she has spent the money for her own pleasure. Thus making Antoine continue to sleep on the couch. Eventually she makes a leap to become a good mother, but one can ask if she was truly genuine about her motherly empathy, or if she were just treating Antoine with love only so he wouldn’t tell the father about her affair with her boss.
4. Mommy Dearest- Joan Crawford
Based on the book by Christina Crawford, the film tells the story of her so-called abusive life with mother Joan Crawford. Now, the film paints a rather nasty picture of the beloved film star and due to that, Faye Dunaway was the only person foolish enough to take the part. But whether you believe the film’s “story” or not, you have to admit that this version of Joan Crawford was not a mother you would want to have. Let’s just say we won’t be putting any wire hangers in our closet.
3. Friday the 13th– Mrs. Voorhees
Who doesn’t love a good mother and son story? Well, maybe if the two joined in normal mother and son hobbies. But for Mrs. Voorhees and her son Jason, they joined in their love for murdering young teenagers. After Jason was assumed to have died at Camp Crystal Lake, Mrs. Voorhees tears through that camp with a vengeance. Thus murdering all the teenagers who were involved in his death. At the end of the film, Mrs. Voorhees is taken care of, only to have her son Jason avenge her death. Now don’t these two just warm your heart?
2. Carrie- Margaret White
It’s hard enough to be a teenager with a strange ability and going through puberty, but it’s even harder when you have a crazy mother who takes the bible too literal. Can you imagine being locked in a small closet and being forced to pray in front of a scary crucifix? Yea, neither can I. As the film continues, Carrie’s mother often goes through life uttering how “dirty” Carrie is. Memorable moments include, Carrie’s mom making remarks about Carrie’s “dirty pillows” (breasts). Ms. White eventually gets her just rewards, but until then, she is one mother I’m glad I don’t have.
1. Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire- Mary
Precious’ mother Mary is probably the worst mother you could have. Mary’s mothering is nonexistent. She blames Precious for all her problems and is also physically abusive towards Precious. Including, the time that she almost kills Precious by throwing a television at her. Let’s just say that due to Mary’s acted out aggression and perverted jealousy towards Precious, Mary is one mother to stay away from.
